 Batik craftsmen in Purbalingga, Central Java began to develop environmentally friendly batik or more popularly called EcoPrint. They use natural-based dyes from plants that can be found in the surrounding area.

One of the craftsmen who now use natural materials is Kusmiyati, residents Bukateja, District Bukateja, Purbalingga. He is now developing a batik ecoprint that has not been much seen by other craftsmen.

Kusmiyati said, the natural ingredients he often use are Tabebuya, Jati, Ketapang, Distance, Africa, Paku, Jenitri and Cemara. The natural color of the plant is extracted and then used into fabric dye.

"So this batik can make use of plants from the surrounding environment," he said in Purbalingga, Monday (2/9).

He claimed to be interested in developing this batik because of its high price. The high value, according to him, was due to the popularity of EcoPrint which is now a trend because it is environmentally friendly. In addition, many batik craftsmen have been plunging into this type of batik industry.

"Previously I craft sandals. Now batik, "he said.

According to Kusmiyati, in addition to the making process that needs more accuracy, natural materials used are sometimes difficult to find. For example, Ekaliptus leaves produce batik motifs that are much in demand. So many looking, lately Ekaliptus leaves are quite expensive.

Just okay, Kusmiyati, a resident of Perum Griya Bukateja Baru Bukateja Purbalingga willingly from the long effort to produce sandals become a batik craftsman ecoprint. Due to not having a batik background, Kusmiyati claimed to be studying for up to three months. During that time, he continued to try to create a color blend and sharpen the technique of batik ecoprint.

"I am trying to keep trying," he said.

He explained, before the packing process, the cloth first soaked using water mixture alum. Then, the natural ingredients are styled on one side of the cloth. Then the other side was made a cover. Craftsmen stay banging the cloth using a hammer to printed natural material motif.

"Later the motif follows the shape of the leaves or flowers used," he explained.

He said, although it looks simple, the process of making batik ecoprint takes persistence and extra patience. Its creation can even take days. Among the other craftsmen with the results of various, although made with the same materials and motifs.

"Prices vary, ranging hundreds of thousands to more than RP1 million. The most expensive Batik is made from classy materials such as silk cloth, "he said.
